Ekcos Urinal Screens

Why Facilities Trust Ekcos Urinal Screens to Fight Splash and Smell

Step into any public loo and the smell hits you first. That sharp sting is ammonia. And ammonia forms when bacteria break down urea, the compound found in urine. Fresh urine doesn’t instantly have a pungent odour. But once it sits on floors, walls, or urinal surfaces, bacteria start feeding, and the odour begins. Public urinals create the perfect storm — warm, moist, and full of organic residue.

In high-traffic areas like airports and shopping centres, splashback is constant. Every flush, every missed aim, every ricochet off porcelain sends droplets flying. They settle on your shoes, your trousers, or worse — your skin. And this mess is a bacterial breeding ground.

If the user has an infection, pathogens like E. coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Proteus get involved. These bacteria are common in UTIs and gastroenteritis. They’re also found in public restrooms — and not just in the bowl. On tiles. On flush handles. Even on the air you breathe.

One flush can make it worse.

That swirl of water rinsing the area also sprays tiny droplets into the air. This is known as aerosolisation, and the droplets contain microbes. That’s how flushing increases airborne bacteria — and that these microbes stay suspended for hours. So even if you don’t touch a thing, you might inhale something you shouldn’t.

And of course, there are those who don’t wash their hands after using the urinal. That means even if you dodge the splash, the next door handle might still carry invisible risks, which spreads on every door handle, tap, and phone screen touched afterward. So now you’ve got splashback, poor hygiene, and airborne germs — all packed into one space. Imagine this happening in a busy space. Hundreds of users. Dozens of flushes. Contamination spreads fast.

The most vulnerable are hit hardest. Children, elderly people, and anyone with a weakened immune system have a lower defence line.

That’s why public urinals are microbiological hot zones. And no — air fresheners can’t fix that. Splashback alone is a bacteria delivery system.  You need a defence plan. That’s where Ekcos urinal screens step in. Your frontline hygiene barriers.

Ekcos Urinal Screens — Stopping the Spread Before It Starts

Each screen is packed with features that serve one purpose: to keep public loos from turning into biohazards. You’ve got splash control. Odour control. And antimicrobial action. All in one compact disk.

Dealing With Backsplash

First, splash control. Most urinals aren’t designed to deal with urine streams. Liquid hits porcelain, rebounds, and lands on the floor, your shoes, or your clothes. Ekcos solutions like the ëkcoscreen break that chain. Their design is practical — built for impact control. The surface features angled, perforated fins. These redirect urine streams downward, stopping them from bouncing off the porcelain and hitting the floor, wall, or — worse — you.

Urine hits the screen. The liquid is slowed. It’s channelled gently into the drain. That stops it from rebounding and spreading. Simple mechanics. No ricochet. No puddles. Just a cleaner hit zone. By diffusing the stream, the screen minimises the distance urine travels. Less airborne mist. Less floor contamination. And far fewer trousers ruined by a visit to the loo.

Without that control, splash zones get messy. You’ll often see urine trails on the floor beneath and around the urinal. You might even smell it before you see it.  Wet floors mean bacteria have the moisture they need to multiply fast.

You won’t have to worry about that with Ekcos urinal screens. They tackle the problem from the source, keeping tiles dry, partitions clean, and shoes urine-free. Not through chemicals. Through clever design. Smart engineering that reduces reliance on mops.

Think about a stadium urinal used by thousands in one weekend. Every splash adds up. On tiles. On dividers. On shoes. Puddles build, bacteria thrive, and cleaning becomes constant. With the right screen in place, that cycle breaks. The urinal stays drier. The floor stays safer. And the cleaning crew spends more time maintaining — not mopping up messes. It’s tidier and more hygienic.

Sealed Bristle Technology™

Products like the Power Screen from Ekcos feature a patented bristle layer designed to disrupt urine flow. Instead of bouncing off a hard surface, liquid hits a flexible grid of soft bristles. The impact is absorbed. The direction is diffused. Splashback is stopped.

This is a three-dimensional barrier that physically shields the user from the mess. And it adapts to different urinal designs, too. Whether you’re fitting it in a high-end waterless system or a standard ceramic bowl, the bristles adjust.

The bristle design lasts up to 30 days, holding its shape, staying functional, and keeping toilets cleaner between professional cleanings. It doesn’t need refitting. It doesn’t clog. And it doesn’t fall apart after a week.

It’s the kind of upgrade that takes seconds to install—but makes a world of difference every time someone steps up to the urinal.

Built-In Antimicrobial Protection

You know the smell. Everyone does.

That stinging, nose-burning odour in public toilets that is ammonia ammonia. And it doesn’t come from fresh urine. It forms when bacteria break down urea, one of the main components in urine. If urine splashes and stays on a surface — the floor, the rim, the pipes — it feeds bacteria. Those bacteria thrive in damp, warm conditions. Then they start churning out ammonia.

Ekcoscreen already physically reduces splash. That’s one battle won. Less splash means less urine in unwanted places. Less mess = fewer bacteria breeding spots.

But it doesn’t stop there.

Inside every screen, there’s an antimicrobial agent — Triclosan. It’s baked into the material, not coated on top. That means it doesn’t rub off. It doesn’t fade in a few days. It keeps working. Why does this matter? A surface spray wears off. But when protection is built into the material, it lasts longer.

So how does it work?

Triclosan attacks bacteria at a cellular level. Specifically, it interferes with fatty acid synthesis — the process bacteria rely on to build their cell walls. Without those walls, they can’t survive. They can’t multiply. They can’t leave behind the stench or the infections.

Celanalytical Inc. ran tests on Ekcos screens using a method called Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC). It’s a standard way to measure how well something stops bacterial growth.

The study was done using two well-known pathogens:

  • Klebsiella pneumoniae
  • Escherichia coli (E. coli)

Each bacterium was cultured on nutrient agar, and a 0.51-gram disk of the Power Screen was placed on the plate. After incubation at 35°C for 24–48 hours, the researchers measured the zone of inhibition—the clear ring around the disk where bacteria couldn’t grow.

The results:

  • Against Klebsiella, the screen produced a 10 mm clear zone.
  • Against E. coli, it delivered a 7 mm clear zone.

No control plate showed this effect. So the growth reduction came from the screen’s antimicrobial material.

Anything over 6mm shows meaningful bacterial resistance. This means the bacteria that normally convert urine into ammonia are suppressed. They can’t grow as fast, or at all. So yes — these screens don’t just slow bacteria. They stop it from growing altogether. And here’s where it really counts.

Most public urinals aren’t cleaned every hour. Some? Once a day. Maybe less. So you need something that keeps working in between. Triclosan doesn’t fade after one flush. It keeps acting while the urinal sits between cleanings.

Even better — the screen also helps keep urinals dry between flushes. Dry surfaces don’t let bacteria thrive. Moisture gone, smell reduced. And since the smell doesn’t build up, cleaning staff aren’t chasing odours all day.

Liquid-Activated Fragrance Release

With the Ekcos Power Screen in particular, odour control gets kicked a notch higher with an additional layer of defence: fragrance.

This isn’t a constant perfume blast. It’s liquid-activated scent release. The screen only releases fragrance when urine hits it. So it works when it’s needed, not when the room is empty. That means the scent stays fresh — even after hundreds of uses. And it’s not overpowering. It’s just enough to mask the unpleasant odours without irritating your nose. Fragrance lasts up to 30 days, even with heavy use.

Choose from a wide range of scents: lavender, tropical fruit, citrus, melon, mango, apple, mint, and more  Each one is paired with a distinct colour, so you know what you’re getting. Even better, those colours fade over time — a simple signal that it’s time to replace the screen.

Built for Real-World Conditions — Including Waterless Urinals

Waterless urinals are efficient. They save litres with every flush not used. However, no flush means more splash. More splash means more lingering urine. And that creates the perfect conditions for bacteria, odour, and complaints.

That’s why Ekcos Power Screen was designed with waterless systems in mind. Its flexible body fits snugly in modern waterless urinals. No slipping. No shifting. Just secure placement from the start.

The bristle design does the heavy lifting. It catches urine at the point of impact and redirects the stream downward. That reduces mess immediately. So even without water, the urinal stays cleaner, longer.

And since it doesn’t rely on constant flushing, the fragrance-release technology becomes even more essential. Activated by liquid, it works every time someone uses the urinal.

It’s also cost-effective. One screen per urinal, per month. Just a simple swap every 30 days. If you’re trying to cut water use without sacrificing hygiene, this is the tool you’ve been waiting for.

Ease of Use and Installation

You don’t need a toolbox to upgrade your urinals. Or an engineer. Or an instruction manual.  Ekcos urinal screens – from the ëkcoscreen  to the Powerscreen, are designed to work straight out of the box.

Just drop them in. That’s it. No adhesives. No clips. No complicated adjustments, or worrying about chemicals to mix or bottles to refill. The friction-fit design means the screen sits firmly in place — whether the urinal flushes with water or doesn’t flush at all. High-traffic venues like schools don’t shake it loose. Whether it’s a high-pressure flush or a waterless system, the screen fits and holds its ground.

This universal design fits nearly all urinals — from standard ceramic bowls to modern water-saving models. So you won’t waste time measuring, ordering different sizes, or fussing about compatibility.

And replacement is equally simple. Each unit is designed to last for a standard cycle of usage. Once it’s done — just lift it out and drop in a new one.

You also don’t need to guess when to change it. The scent slowly fades over time, which helps signal when it’s time for a fresh one. The colour too. Another subtle cue that it’s time to change.

Some Ekcos models come with a simple built-in date dial. You twist it to mark the day of installation. Forget about faded stickers or scribbled notes on cleaning charts. This is a clear, visible reminder that helps your janitorial team stay on schedule.

The design of the Ekcos urinal screens supports the people who keep washrooms running. So you get fewer messes. Fewer replacements. And far less time spent figuring things out.

Bulk-Friendly Packaging for High-Volume Sites

Running a large facility? Then you know hygiene supplies can quickly eat up space. Packaging matters. Not just for display — but for storage, shipping, and reordering.

The last thing you want is awkward shapes or wasted volume.

The design of the Ekcos urinal screens takes storage and supply chain into consideration. You get clean, compact packaging that makes bulk ordering easy — and restocking even easier.

Take the ëkcoscreen units for instance. Each twin-pack weighs just 282 grams (roughly 10 ounces). That’s enough to service two urinals straight away. These packs are grouped into boxes of six, giving you 12 ëkcoscreen units per box. The full box weighs around 4.10 pounds, or 1.86 kilograms — easy to move, easy to shelve. Box dimensions come in at 19cm x 20cm x 19cm — a neat cube that fits perfectly on storage shelves or janitor carts. Need to store them in a cleaning closet? You can.  Stocking them in a backroom with 100 other supplies? No problem.

Now scale that up.

If you manage multiple sites — airports, malls, stadiums — you’ll want to stock more. That’s where master cases come in. One case includes 12 boxes, totalling 144 screens. These stack cleanly and transport easily, with a footprint of 40cm x 60cm x 40cm and a manageable weight of 23.56 kilograms.

Still not big enough?

Then go full scale with a pallet. That’s 25 master cases, or 3,600 urinal screens. All stacked on a footprint of just 1 metre x 1.2 metres, standing 2.16 metres high. The full weight is 613 kg, or 1,351.43 lbs. It’s heavy, but solid. And perfectly stackable in a warehouse or janitor’s store.

This kind of volume suits janitorial services, property managers, schools, hospitals, event venues, and facility maintenance contractors. Basically, any space where toilets get serious footfall and can’t afford hygiene shortcuts. So whether you need 2 units or 3,600, there’s a packaging tier that fits your scale.

The Ekcos Power Screen packs are also lightweight—just 140g for two units. That’s light enough for daily swaps, but sturdy enough to handle wear.  Five of those packs are bundled into a box of 10 screens. That box weighs around 1.85 lb (0.84 kg) and measures 11.5 cm x 21.5 cm x 19.5 cm—compact enough for standard shelving.

Need to go bigger? A single pallet holds 288 boxes, totalling 2,880 screens. Pallet dimensions come to 1m x 1.2m x 1.45m, with a combined weight of 270 kg. Boxes are compact. Pallets are stackable. And the system works seamlessly for monthly hygiene services. Easy in. Easy out. No excess packaging to throw away. Packaging is neat, labelled, and ready to deploy month after month. Whether you’re handling one building or two hundred, this setup delivers without creating storage headaches.

And if branding particularly matters to you, Ekcos offers private labelling. You get the same screen, the same performance—but matched to your company’s look.

Why Ekcos Urinal Screens Are an Asset For Facility Managers

When you’re in charge of a facility, you’re not just ticking cleaning boxes. You should deal with any emerging chaos before it becomes complaints. Plenty of the chaos can start off in the loo. Whether you manage a school, hospital, office, gym, or a high-end restaurant, the challenges differ. But the pain is the same. Smells. Splash. Stains. And the never-ending trail of bacteria.

Let’s start with schools.

Kids are unpredictable. Aiming is optional. And the concept of flushing is often forgotten. You know how hard it is to keep school urinals clean. By lunchtime, that gleaming tile you mopped in the morning is a wet, smelly mess. Ekcos urinal screens absorb the shock—literally. The bristle design redirects the stream, slashing splashback and keeping floors dry. Even better, they last the whole month. So you’re not changing screens mid-term.

Now think about gyms.

High turnover. Sweaty users. And no one has time for toilet etiquette after leg day. The scent of ammonia mixed with post-workout musk is brutal. Ekcos screens fight odour right at the point of contact. The liquid-activated fragrance works when someone uses the urinal—not when the loo is empty. That means no wasted scent. And no overwhelming perfume blast.

Hospitals are another beast.

Sanitation isn’t a preference—it’s a priority. When you’re dealing immunocompromised patients there is zero room for error. A single splash zone could carry infectious bacteria. Ekcos urinal screens don’t just mask problems. They kill them. The built-in Triclosan stops bacteria before it spreads. So even between cleanings, you’ve got a working line of defence.

And offices?

You’ve got staff to impress, guests to host, and HR to keep happy. The last thing you want is a complaint about urine stains on the floor or a toilet that smells like a back alley. Ekcos gives your facilities that clean, cared-for feel. No strong chemical smells. Just crisp, functional hygiene that gets noticed for the right reasons.

Hotels deal with another level of scrutiny.

Your guests expect luxury. Clean towels. Spotless sheets. Immaculate loos. A foul-smelling washroom undoes all that effort in seconds. Ekcos screens preserve your reputation. They fight odour before it wafts out of the toilet door. They also protect your brand image in online reviews. No one wants to see “smelly toilet” tagged on TripAdvisor.

Schools, gyms, offices, hospitals, hotels—they all carry different pressures. But with Ekcos, one product meets them all.

Making Life Easier for Everyone on the Ground

Facilities aren’t just walls and plumbing. They’re people. Your janitorial team. Your site supervisor. Your maintenance crew. They’re the ones making it all work. Ekcos urinal screens lighten their load.

Nobody wants to keep scrubbing puddles of urine off the floor. Or deal with stubborn ammonia stink baked into the grout. With these screens in place, less liquid hits the floor. That means less mopping. Less scrubbing. And far fewer sighs from your cleaning crew.

Then there’s the replacement cycle. Simple. Intuitive. Just one screen per urinal per month. No tools. No training. Just drop it in. And with the built-in date dial, you always know when to switch it out.

Take schools again. You’re dealing with limited budgets and strict schedules. These screens make hygiene one less thing to worry about. Install in September. Change in October. No chasing cleaners or guessing timelines.

Or restaurants.

Ambience matters. That includes the loo. Guests won’t come back if the toilet smells like a bin. Ekcos screens don’t need extra sprays or last-minute clean-ups. They work every time someone uses the urinal—without turning your washroom into a fragrance explosion. And since they trap bacteria at the source, you reduce the need for harsh chemical cleanings.

For transport hubs like airports or bus stations, it’s all about volume. High foot traffic. Quick turnover. Minimal cleaning windows. Ekcos screens thrive under pressure. Each one handles hundreds of users per day without collapsing, clogging, or shifting out of place.

And if you’re running an event hotspot? You already know the challenge. Peak usage over a short period. Ekcos screens stay locked in place. They don’t slip. They don’t shift. And they keep odours in check, even when thousands use the urinal in one afternoon.

Even correctional facilities benefit from consistency.

Security is tight. Maintenance time is short. Cleaning staff need reliable tools. Ekcos screens don’t require special monitoring. No sharp edges. No loose parts. Just simple performance that won’t raise red flags. And with a month-long lifespan, they reduce the frequency of maintenance rounds.

Then there are care homes.

You’re caring for people who can’t always aim well—or move quickly. The floors need to be dry. The air needs to be fresh. And the washrooms need to feel safe. Ekcos helps with all three. Less splash means less slip risk. Less odour means more dignity for residents. And since the screens work between cleans, the environment stays stable.

The real win?

Your washrooms look better. Smell better. And stay cleaner for longer. Without extra hours. Without more chemicals. Just a screen that’s been engineered to do its job—quietly and effectively.

Whether you’re responsible for one school or fifty buildings, Ekcos urinal screens work hard so your team doesn’t have to. And that kind of reliability makes a difference.

A Safer Washroom — and a Greener Planet

Most urinal screens end up in landfill. They sit for years, leaching chemicals and taking up space. Ekcos does it differently. It’s big on environmental care.  You can see this with its different product lines.

Take the Power Screen for instance.

It’s made with Eco One™—a smart additive that speeds up biodegradation in anaerobic environments like landfills.

A study by the Interdisciplinary Centre of Environmental Development Studies in Mexico ran for 119 days under anaerobic conditions. Two screens were tested: one with Eco One, one without. Both were shredded into tiny strips, about 2 mm wide, sealed in flasks, and incubated at 50°C using the ASTM D-5511-02 method — a recognised standard for biodegradation in landfill-like environments.

The ratio was kept precise: 2% solid weight to 90% total flask volume. Air was flushed out using helium to maintain a fully anaerobic environment—no oxygen allowed. The flasks were then sealed with rubber-stoppered aluminium lids. This kept them airtight but still allowed for gas sampling. Samples were stirred manually and monitored for gas build-up using syringes.

Gas chromatography measured methane and CO₂ levels. Volume was tracked by observing the syringe plunger movement.

The results:

  • The Eco One-treated screen released 137 ml of biogas
  • The untreated screen generated just 2 ml
  • That’s a 68.5x increase in breakdown activity.

In terms of actual breakdown, the screen with Eco One lost 8.99% of its mass in just under four months, while the untreated one lost nothing. And this wasn’t just a surface change. It was confirmed by measuring methane (28.98%) and carbon dioxide (71.02%) in the gas released—classic signs of true biodegradation.

But sustainability doesn’t stop at breakdown. Ekcos urinal screens are also VOC compliant — meeting California’s strict emission regulations. That means they don’t release excess volatile compounds into the air. They are made with safe, responsible material choices. Safe for your staff, your users, and your maintenance crew.

Keep in mind that Ekcos urinal screens work without bleach, sprays or reapplication. The Triclosan-infused resin works non-stop — whether the urinal has been flushed recently or not. It keeps working between cleanings, without harsh chemicals or aggressive fumes.

This makes it safer for children, elderly users, and people with sensitivities. No strong vapours. No burn-your-nose fragrances. Just effective, quiet control where it’s needed most.

Even the packaging pulls its weight. Compact. Lightweight. Stackable. Less plastic, less bulk, fewer logistics headaches. That matters when you’re moving thousands of units across cities. If your business is trying to cut waste, reduce carbon impact, or meet procurement goals — this is a hygiene product you should consider.

Where Ekcos Urinal Screens Make the Biggest Impact

High-Footfall Facilities

Crowded toilets aren’t forgiving. Splash builds up fast. So does smell.

Stadiums, airports, shopping centres — these places can see thousands of users a day. That’s thousands of urine streams. Thousands of splash incidents. Thousands of chances for bacteria to spread across tiles, shoes, and walls.

Without control, that becomes a cleaning nightmare. This even applies to office buildings, restaurants and entertainment venues with all those people using their facilities.

Ekcos urinal screens are built for this kind of traffic. The bristle design cuts splash at the source. The antimicrobial resin fights bacteria between flushes. And the liquid-activated fragrance keeps the space smelling fresh, not like ammonia.

Each screen lasts up to 30 days, even in heavy-use urinals. It doesn’t warp. It doesn’t clog. It just keeps working.

For high-traffic washrooms, that means fewer odour complaints. Less mess on the floor. And a more sanitary environment — even during peak hours.

Monthly Washroom Maintenance Teams

If you run scheduled washroom servicing, you don’t need products that complicate the job. You need screens that match your workflow.

Ekcos urinal screens are designed to last a standard 30-day cycle. That aligns perfectly with monthly maintenance rounds. So you won’t have mid-month panic swaps. And given that some models include a built-in date dial, your crew always knows what’s due.

And the materials hold up. The screens won’t curl, shift, or break down halfway through the month — even in high-use facilities like schools, hospitals, or sports venues.

Cleaner Urinals Start With Smarter Screens

Public urinals are messy. They smell. They splash. And they spread germs far beyond the bowl. Moisture feeds bacteria. Flushing spreads them. But you can fight back.

Ekcos urinal screens are proactive. Designed to tackle splash, odour, and contamination in one move — they’re compact, effective, and built for the chaos of high-traffic toilets.

You get lab-tested antimicrobial performance. The Triclosan-infused resin gives you real bacterial suppression. And the products have a 30-day service cycle. Fragrance on contact — not all day long, minimizing wastage. And splash control that actually works, thanks to smart bristle design and downward flow redirection.

You also get sustainability. The Eco One™ additive accelerates biodegradation in landfill conditions — great for reducing your carbon footprint. All right down to the packaging with the, be it the twin packs or pallets, you get a scale that fits your site.

Whether you manage one washroom or hundreds, the goal is the same: stop the smell, stop the spread, and make public loos less foul for everyone.

This doesn’t need complicated tech. Just smarter screens. That’s what Ekcos does — flush after flush, day after day.
